Classroom Music:

Music is an integral part of The Arts Curriculum at Mackenzie State Primary School. All students from Prep to Year 6 participate in a weekly 30-minute classroom music lesson led by our specialist teacher. These lessons focus on hands-on learning, giving students the opportunity to explore, create and respond to music while developing their skills and confidence.

Students are encouraged to discover and nurture their natural musical talents through engaging and practical experiences aligned with the Australian Curriculum.

Mackenzie Musos (Choir)
Mackenzie Musos is our school choir for students in Years 2 to 6 who enjoy singing. The choir meets weekly during lunch breaks to learn a variety of songs and prepare for performances throughout the year. Participation is free and open to all interested students.

Afternoon of Music
At the end of each semester, we celebrate our students’ musical achievements with an “Afternoon of Music.” This special event showcases the talents of our extra-curricular music students and provides an opportunity for families and the school community to enjoy and appreciate the learning that has taken place.

Strings Program

We are proud to be part of the EQ Instrumental Music Program, offering students in Years 3–6 the opportunity to participate in weekly group lessons and ensemble experiences in violin, viola, and cello.

Toward the end of Year 2, interested students and families are invited to apply for the program. This application process encourages families to carefully consider the commitment involved, including participation from Year 3 through to the end of Year 6, regular attendance at weekly lessons, consistent practice at home, and involvement in concerts each semester.

Learning a musical instrument provides a wide range of benefits for students. It supports physical coordination, enhances cognitive development, and strengthens emotional wellbeing. Students involved in instrumental music often demonstrate increased resilience, improved self-regulation, and a lifelong appreciation for creativity and the arts.
